No “Bucket List” of album releases would be complete without a release of something from The Sherman Bros Band.

This band was an anomaly of sorts for my brother Greg & me. Except for our very early days (the mid-‘60s) Greg and I have always dedicated our time and energy to writing, producing and promoting our own ORIGINAL music with our band Glass. The SBB came about almost by accident. Our financially-disastrous last Glass experience in New York(¹) left us wanting to “just make some money playing music” for once. Greg and I put together a couple of touring bands (Changer, Straw Dogs) with the intention of just making a few bucks, and ended up having to brave the rigors of the Frozen North to play the favorite tunes of Canadian fur-trappers.

Fast forward a few months. After returning to the States, Greg and I welcomed two local Port Townsend musicians, Rick Wiley and Jack Scott, into our ranks. A few years younger than us, they already had a small following of their own fans. So “the Sherms” (as our fans called us) became a multi-generational effort, and somehow the chemistry really clicked, striking a resonant chord with the people who came out to see us. We started to concentrate on The Olympic Peninsula area, specifically our comparatively warm home town of Port Townsend, Washington. When the Hood Canal Bridge sank during a windstorm, the band found ourselves playing before wildly appreciative captive audiences.

Our popularity sky-rocketed. This was a complete surprise to us, two musicians who had always labored inside our own musical dreams for so many years in near anonymity. SBB worked all the time. Gigs flowed to us like the kegs of beer we were helping sell for the tavern and club owners. They knew booking The Sherman Brothers Band meant a weekend of huge profits. And we, for our part, started making good money for the first time in our lives. Playing covers! Go figure.

For the next two years the band gigged extensively and professionally recorded a single at Kaye-Smith studios (with legendary NW producer Don McKinney of Don and the Goodtimes). We even managed to land a 'residency' at The Roma Inn in downtown Port Townsend! Just about the time we were getting ready to start doing more of the original music we were still writing, the fates intervened and Jack Scott, our charismatic lead guitarist and co-vocalist, left the band. The chemistry of a band is a delicate thing, and without him we found we just couldn’t generate the same level of excitement onstage.
That, and the Hood Canal Bridge got repaired.
Presented here is our only single, plus a few surviving live recordings, of which there were never very many. We were-after all-primarily a live band doing covers, & one that needed to be experienced live and in-person. With a pitcher full of beer on the table!
